The first basic submission technique that you will learn in BJJ training is the “Kimura” from the back. Executing this technique requires the guard where you lie down on the ground with knees elevated above the rest of your body. When you are in this guard position, you need to clamp down the wrist of your opponent, making them immobile. Your next move is to open your legs at the knee area in order to elevate off the ground. Your relaxed lower legs and knees position you to place your free hand around your opponent’s arm, grabbing from the wrist. After grabbing the wrist, you can then use your lower body strength to lie down once more, bringing your right leg into your opponent’s back. After your right leg pins down your opponent, you take his free arm and raise your right arm to the back of the neck of your opponent. This position will make your opponent feel pressure and taps out.
The Americana is another submission technique for BJJ that Baltimore Brazilian jiu jitsu schools teach. This technique starts with, you going to mount position. Normally, your opponent has his hands before his face trying to ward off your attack. You cup his hand without using your thumbs and apply pressure to the left hand of your opponent. You should press the left hand of your opponent to the ground with hands still cupped. Make sure that you elbow is close to your opponent’s head to ensure his immobility, and bring your right arm under the pinned arm of your opponent and elevate your opponent’s pinned arm. This will make your opponent feel pressure and taps out.
Baltimore Brazilian jiu jitsu schools will teach you The Kimura and The Americana as the basic technique. These two basic Brazilian jiu jitsu techniques and moves can be performed by both beginners and professionals. However, do not expect that you can implement these moves quickly. They require time, patience and constant practice.
